Role Overview
Shall provide senior-level creative communications direction consistent with the Communications Manager labor category defined by NCS. This role leverages extensive experience and judgment to direct, guide, and coordinate activities of team/teams of technical personnel performing complex activities. Responsible for recommending, executing, and maintaining all communication strategies, plans, and message management processes.
• Contributes to the development of communications initiatives, interface directly with NASA OSTEM or OCOMM leadership.
The Creative Director acts as a strategic connector between OSTEM leadership, project leads, center offices, and the NCS communications teams—ensuring that OSTEM’s workforce-development priorities are clearly understood and translated into cohesive, cross-platform communications products.
The Creative Director maintains clear and proactive communication channels, keeping the full communications team informed and aligned with OSTEM’s evolving mission. The director creates visual communications and designs as required.
Core Responsibilities
Creative Communications Planning & Development
  • Lead the development and alignment of high-quality creative messaging for NASA OSTEM, applying advanced strategic communications skills to address new directions and emerging priorities.
  • Provide clarity on processes and workflows, disseminate messaging, and assemble project plans based on organizational needs and team capabilities—ensuring messaging is threaded through all outputs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct communications tasks requiring seasoned judgment, deep familiarity with NASA’s mission and OSTEM priorities, and optimize resources.
  • Produce a range of creative assets, including charts, brochures, logos, animations, and ensure 508 compliance.
Creative Content Direction & Management
  • Guide content strategy across web, social, video teams to promote a unified narrative and prevent fragmented or platform-specific messaging.
  • Coordinate incoming requests to ensure they are aligned and consistently threaded through all communications channels.
  • Maintain clear, proactive communication channels so the entire communications team remains informed about OSTEM’s future priorities, workforce-development messaging needs, and content themes.
  • Support internal cohesion by relaying direction from executive comms, identifying cross-team impacts, and preventing duplicated or contradictory efforts.
 Cross-Functional Integration & Coordination
  • Partner with communications product owners, strategists, and technical specialists to integrate messaging, streamline workflows, and reinforce consistent themes across all products.
  • Work closely with center offices to connect programmatic goals with communications outputs.
  • Monitor content streams for alignment, consistency, and cohesion; identify gaps where platform-specific requests may lead to disconnected messaging and proactively coordinate with product teams to align outputs.
Executive Communications & Graphic Support
  • Collaborate with executive communications strategist for chart development and comprehensive messaging/products for various projects and programs.
  • Perform tasks related to 508 compliance, produce web graphics, logos, brochures, program and executive communications, and graphic design.
 
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, writing, or other appropriate area of specialization from an accredited college or university; • Fifteen (15) years of relevant experience; and • Proficient in: –advanced oral and written communications; –advanced writing and editing; and –advanced problem solving

             Must be Proficient in Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office.

Salary Range is $135K to $142K

This is a hybrid work position with onsite work at Johnson Space Center in Clear Lake, TX.
